Position Summary:

As an expert clinician and nurse educator, the Endowed Professorship in Pediatric Clinical Nursing Practice and Teaching is dedicated to advancing the care of the pediatric population and providing excellence in the education of compassionate and competent nurses and other health professionals. Located at Creighton University’s Health Science Campus in Phoenix, Arizona, this new opportunity will seek to enhance Creighton University’s longstanding partnership with St. Vincent de Paul and Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust for providing services for the underserved, uninsured population in Phoenix, Arizona.

 

Essential Functions:

Clinical Practice

·      As an APRN, engage in clinical practice and provide care for pediatric patients at St. Vincent de Paul Medical Clinic, as part of the interdisciplinary team to enhance the care of the pediatric population and their families.

·      Collaborate and consult with pediatric Co-Directors and other pediatric providers as needed.

·      Identify clinical needs and makes suggestions to enhance the provision of high-quality pediatric patient care.

 

 

Teaching

·      Engage in teaching focused to develop compassionate and competent healthcare professionals.

·      Participate in the clinical teaching of students (e.g., clinical, simulation, didactic, preceptorship advisor)

·      Collaborate with pediatric faculty in the development and delivery of content in the nursing program (s), and development of new pediatric clinical experiences.

 

 Scholarship

·      Engage in scholarly activities to advance the practice, education, and study of pediatric care, nursing, and interdisciplinary education, consistent with the College of Nursing standards for rank and tenure.

 

 

 Service

·      Engage in service to enhance the mission of the College and the University, and in alignment with the College of Nursing’s standards for rank and tenure.

·      Participate in the development of relationships with community partners to enhance pediatric care to underserved populations.

Education & Experience:

·         Doctorate in Nursing.

·         Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program.

·         3-5 years’ experience as an APRN in pediatric primary care (family NP or pediatric NP; strong preference for PNP).

·         Experience in teaching (clin.ical, simulation, and/or didactic) in an undergraduate/graduate nursing program.

·         Experience in a leadership position in the clinical or academic setting preferred.

·         Leadership or membership within a professional pediatric organization preferred.

·         Some evidence of scholarship in pediatric nursing preferred (e.g., presentations, etc.)

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         Skilled in providing pediatric primary health care, including well-child care, and prevention/management of common pediatric conditions from birth though young adult.

·         Expertise in the diagnosis and management of common pediatric illnesses and conditions.

·         Knowledge of teaching methodologies in the clinical setting, to guide the learning of undergraduate nursing students.

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to build a team environment that facilitates inter-professional collaboration.

·         Experience in the development of relationships with community partners.

·         Commitment to providing individualized, personal care tailored to the needs of the child and family.

·         Experience with multiple languages an asset but not required.

 

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Eligible for licensure as an RN and APRN in the state of Arizona (pediatric nurse practitioner/family nurse practitioner).
  • Hold and maintain national certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, or Family Nurse Practitioner.
  • American Heart Association BLS (PALS/ACLS preferred).
