The Senior Web Strategist is a key leader in advancing Creighton University’s digital presence, championing strategic initiatives that prioritize user experience, brand alignment, and institutional storytelling. They are a key contributor to the university’s digital ecosystem, responsible for planning, implementing, and optimizing site infrastructure and user-centered web content. This role plays an essential part in ensuring Creighton’s website reflects institutional priorities and meets the needs of prospective students,  external audiences and internal stakeholders,.

 

Reporting to the Director of Web Strategy and working side-by-side with the Senior Marketing Analyst and content developers the Senior Web Strategist translates high-level strategy into structured web experiences through thoughtful content planning, collaboration across departments, and governance support. In addition to project execution, this role provides guidance and mentorship to web strategists and coordinators, supporting team consistency and cross-functional alignment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  •  Web Strategy Execution & Planning
    • Lead the execution of new web sections, components and pages that reflect Creighton’s mission and goals
    • Support the planning and structure of high-impact website sections, especially academic and recruitment-focused pages
    • Lead content planning and templating for new and redesigned pages, ensuring alignment with SEO, accessibility, and engagement goals
    • Collaborate with content creators, designers, and developers to implement cohesive web experiences
    • Lead sitemapping, stakeholder coordination, and asset organization to ensure content accuracy, consistency, and discoverability during large-scale web transitions
  •  Content Architecture & User Experience
    • Develop and maintain clear, scalable content structures and navigation models
    • Support information architecture and navigation planning
    • Guide implementation of modular templates and reusable page components that support brand and usability standards in Drupal
  •  Web Support, Implementation & Stakeholder Collaboration
    • Support large-scale web transitions through structured site mapping, asset coordination, and cross-functional collaboration
    • Serve as liaison between technical teams and stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate content delivery
    • Assist with content planning, templating, and page builds for new or optimized content
    • Translate strategy into execution by aligning pages with brand, SEO, accessibility, and conversion goals
    • Act as a liaison for assigned colleges or administrative units
    • Advise campus partners on templating, layout decisions, and best practices for digital communication
    • Provide guidance around content updates, templating decisions, and layout recommendations
    • Foster a culture of alignment and transparency by helping stakeholders understand the why behind digital strategy choices
    • Facilitate feedback loops and ensure alignment with web strategy and brand standards
  •  Governance & QA (Quality Assurance)
    • Maintain documentation related to content ownership, publishing workflows, redirects, and lifecycle tracking
    • Support content governance by enforcing editorial standards and assisting with audits for accuracy and consistency
    • Funnel stakeholder feedback into actionable recommendations for content planning
  •  Mentorship and Team Coordination
    • Provide day-to-day guidance to web strategists and web coordinators
    • Support task prioritization, review page drafts and layouts, and offer constructive feedback to ensure consistent execution
    • Collaborate with the Director of Web Strategy to support team cohesion, capacity building, and delivery excellence
  •  Performance Monitoring and Optimization
    • Use web analytics and tools to identify opportunities for improvement
    • Recommend updates based on data insights, user behavior, and institutional goals
    • Track site performance and user flows for continuous improvement

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in web strategy, web marketing, development, digital communications, or a related area; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience in web strategy, content management, UX design or web management

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with agile project management or web transformation initiatives in higher education
  • Experience with large-scale content overhauls or redesign initiatives in higher ed or nonprofit environments
  • Understanding of WCAG accessibility guidelines and mobile-first best practices
  • Comfort working in matrixed environments and within structured leadership models
  • Experience supporting content governance and editorial workflows

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in web content management systems (Drupal preferred), SEO, and accessibility standards
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; able to manage concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
  • Web Project Management proficiency (Wrike)
  • Familiarity with user research, web analytics tools (Google Analytics, ScreamingFrog, heatmapping tools), or SEO platforms (Ahrefs)
  • Proficiency with technical troubleshooting across marketing technology and websites
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across departments and levels within a complex organization.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Understanding of site search and extensive site mapping
