Senior Reference and Outreach Librarian
Creighton University’s School of Law in Omaha, NE is seeking to hire a Senior Reference and Outreach Librarian.
Work in the Klutznick Law Library and McGrath North Mullin & Kratz Legal Research Center. The Reference and Outreach Librarian serves as a pivotal liaison between the law library and its academic community, supporting research, instructional services, and faculty engagement. This position contributes to the strategic development of outreach initiatives and manages reference services to enhance access to legal information and research support.
As a member of the Leadership Team and holding library faculty status, the librarian participates in university and library committees and collaborates on projects that advance the library’s mission within Creighton School of Law under faculty status.
· Reference Services: serves as the lead librarian for reference services, guiding the direction, coordination, and delivery of legal reference across the law library. This leadership role includes managing resources, personnel, and initiatives that ensure high-quality research support for the law school community.
· Reference Operations & Coordination: Manage the reference schedule, ensuring consistent coverage and quality service. Serve as primary coordinator for monthly reference team meetings. Respond to reference questions both during scheduled desk shifts and outside designated hours.
· Reference Collection & Resource Development: Oversee development of the reference collection, including review of new titles. Lead creation and maintenance of LibGuides. Manage reference handouts to support instructional and service needs. Maintain responsibility for NOLO materials and related content. Supervise access to and organization of research tools available through the public access terminals, ensuring that legal resources are discoverable and user-friendly for patrons. Coordinate maintenance of functionality in collaboration with designated access services staff.
· Outreach and Instruction: Develop and implement outreach initiatives to engage students, faculty, and staff. Collaborate with library staff on outreach methods, policies, and assessment. Monitor external trends and best practices to adapt outreach efforts. Assist with registration of students and faculty for licensed database access (in cooperation with Instructional Services Librarian). Prepare for and co-teach research and instructional classes during fall and spring semesters .
· Faculty Services: Act as primary faculty liaison for library services. Identify faculty research needs and consult on legal and interdisciplinary research strategies. Support discrete research requests and long-term faculty research projects. Develop outreach initiatives to familiarize faculty with library services and resources. Hire, train, and supervise student research assistants for faculty support. Train individual faculty student assistants in effective research techniques.
· J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
· M.L.S. or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library school, *or* current enrollment in an ALA-accredited M.L.S. or equivalent program.
· Experience in teaching, outreach planning, and legal research consultation preferred.
· Familiarity with reference collection development and LibGuide creation.
