This role performs first line basic care, feeding, and husbandry of all species of animals used in research at Creighton University in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and standards. Assists the Attending Veterinarian, Veterinary Technician, or designee in the treatment of sick or injured animals. Responsible for the proper initiation and maintenance of required federal, state, local, and departmental records and documentation.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items up to 40 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.


This position will work Monday to Friday; 7am-3:30pm, position may require evening, weekend, and holiday work (final candidate would be on "rotation" with other staff). 

Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required;
2-4 years of related experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Basic knowledge of the care and feeding of animals;
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
Ability to see details at close range;
Ability to listen and understand spoken information and ideas;
Ability to lift, push, pull or carry objects;
Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs;
Ability to work rotating weekends and holidays

Required Licenses/Certifications:

Must have a valid and current driver's license with a clean driving record for the last 3 years and no major violations within the last 5 years;
American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification preferred;
Successful completion of Creighton University Animal Occupational Health and Safety Program
