Provides senior level experience, knowledge, and leadership in the area of grounds maintenance. Serves as subject matter expert, answers questions, and advises others, including contractors and other Groundskeepers, on best practices as related to their area of expertise, including but not limited to equipment and vehicle repair, horticulture, snow removal, hardscaping, irrigation, and general grounds maintenance. Mows, fertilizes, and maintains turf grass. Transplants, prunes, waters, and maintains ornamental plants, trees and shrubs. Weeds, mulches, and maintains ornamental beds. Identifies ornamental, tree, turf, and weed species and has knowledge of best practices as related to culture, fertility, pruning, etc. Performs litter control and general grounds maintenance. Schedules, monitors, maintains, and performs repairs to landscape irrigation system. Sweeps, installs, repairs, and otherwise maintains hardscape areas. Installs and maintains campus signage and site fixtures. Provides support for outdoor events. Performs snow removal. Provides grounds maintenance in all seasons and weather conditions. Operates equipment including skid steers, loaders, forklift, sweepers, large mowers, brush chipper, articulating lift, and dump truck. Performs inspections, maintenance, and repairs on equipment and vehicles.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching and crawling all day. Must be able to work outside in various temperatures (summer/winter) for extended periods of time. The employee must frequently lift and move items up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

This position is Monday to Friday; 7am-3:30pm Winter Hours and 6am-2:30pm Spring/Summer. Final candidate must be flexible during seasons with potential snow and ice events; will require mandatory overtime during these events.  

*During the months of April to October requires flexibility on hours. 
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
5+ years' experience; prefer Commercial Pesticide Applicator's
  
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
License, Nebraska Arborists Association certification or CDL.
Strong knowledge of grounds maintenance procedures and best practices
Strong knowledge of plant and turf species, including identification, culture/maintenance requirements, insect/disease identification and control, weed control.
Strong knowledge of grounds-related equipment and tools and their use, maintenance, and repair
Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of operating grounds equipment
Interpersonal/human relations skills
Strong leadership ability as will lead large crews
Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Ability to work outdoors in harsh weather
Must be flexible to address snow and ice events in winter months
Must be flexible to take call-out rotations during summer months

Required Licenses/Certifications
Must have a valid and current driver's license with a clean driving record for the last 3 years and no major violations within the last 5 years.
Prefer Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License, Nebraska Arborists Association certification or CDL.
