Responsible for coordinating and communicating all financial aid aspects for medical students on the Phoenix campus. Provide financial aid counseling on individual basis from pre-matriculation to graduation. Collaborate with the Financial Aid Director on the Omaha campus to develop and maintain a robust financial literacy curriculum.  Work independently, and with the main Financial Aid Office, to resolve medical student financial aid issues. Manage scholarship and medical student debt information and prepare financial aid information/reports the School of Medicine Scholarship Committee, Medical Dean’s Office, and outside agencies. Process departmental financial transactions and assist with the management of the departmental budget.

Essential Functions:





Meet with all students interviewing for medical school to discuss federal financial aid and scholarships, cost of attendance, budgeting, and credit reports/scores. In addition to interview day, present to the students at Open Houses, Orientation and Entrance Counseling.



Be available to all matriculating and current medical students via email, phone or walk-ins to provide financial aid counseling. Provide information on financial aid deadlines, requirements, and cost of attendance. Troubleshoot issues with financial aid processing, disbursements, refunds, etc., and if needed, contact the main Financial Aid Office or the Business Office to resolve problems.



Present mandatory Gold Track curriculum tailored to each year of a medical student’s medical school experience. In addition, provide optional Twenty Minute Topic sessions and Open Doors sessions to medical students on the Phoenix campus and at the hospital (for those in the clinical years).



Provide mandatory Exit Counseling to all graduating medical students with medical school debt. In addition to the mandatory session, provide an optional one-on-one personalized loan exit counseling for the graduating student to discuss tailored debt management and repayment strategies. Prepare a Repayment Handbook for each student requesting a one-on-one meeting.



Oversee School of Medicine Scholarship budgets, applications, and awards. Prepare information for the School of Medicine Scholarship Committee. Assist with the preparation and submission of the LCME Part-IB Financial Aid Questionnaire. Provide scholarship and debt information to the Medical Dean’s Office upon request. Medicine Scholarship Committee meetings.



Process departmental financial transactions to include P-Card, faculty/staff/student reimbursements and prepare and manage the Phoenix department budget.


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in related area required.

3-5 years of financial aid and financial literacy experience required.

Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary 

Working knowledge of Title IV rules and regulations

Interpersonal/human relations/communication/listening skills

Organizational/planning skills

Writing and editing skills

Counseling and financial aid eligibility assessment skills

Ability to adapt to work environment changes and relate to diverse populations

Ability to assess situations, prioritize needs and tasks, and assist, counsel, and act accordingly

Ability to interpret oral and written instructions

Ability to establish and maintain effective, team-oriented working relationships

Ability to operate a personal computer and various software programs, including Banner
