The Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is seeking an enthusiastic and resolute Educator with strong technology skills to teach English as a Second Language (ESL) courses that prepare non-native English-speaking students with improving their written and verbal skills.

Instructors are responsible for providing a classroom environment that is equitable and inclusive, as well as implementing instruction that considers a variety of learning styles that facilitates active learning and offers strategies for improving a student’s English learning ability. Must be able to work in Omaha, NE.

 

Key Responsibilities:

The primary function of the ESL Instructor is to provide instruction to EOC participants 19 years of age and older. Duties consist of creating courses for non-native speakers with diverse activities and methods that cover all aspects of the English language such as speaking, writing, and comprehending. Key responsibilities of the instructor will consist of assigning homework, administering, and grading student assessments, creating Individual Learning Plans, collecting, recording, and reporting all necessary information related to students in a timely manner, and participating in staff meetings.

Continuing with the theme of providing service to others, the TRIO Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is one of five federally funded TRIO programs hosted by Creighton University. The EOC targets individuals ages nineteen and over, who are low-income and potential first-generation college students. The primary goal of this program is to provide information and support to adults seeking to continue their education.

 

Additional Responsibilities May Include:

  • Creating projects designed to enhance lectures.
  • Integrating competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
  • Utilizing curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
  • Tutoring students on an individual basis.
  • Assessing student progress and authoring reports
  • Following national and regional policies for teaching English as a second language
  • Working with program coordinators to ensure program initiatives are being met

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, English, or a related field
  • Previous experience as an ESL teacher or similar role
  • Knowledge of various methods of teaching English to non-native speakers
  • Great organizational and communication skills
  • ESL or TESOL certification
  • Strong digital and technology skills
  • Working knowledge of Adult Education standards
