Our Carpenter Shop has an open position. Depending upon the qualifications of the final candidate they will be hired into either a Carpenter I OR Carpenter II. Below is the summary and qualifications for each role.

Carpenter I:
Under general supervision, completes work orders by performing rough and finish carpentry projects and repair University buildings and contents. Must be knowledgeable in the procedures and safety measures in area(s) of specialty. Will coordinate work orders and ensure completion of all responsibilities in a timely manner. Ideal candidate should have experience in the construction, repair and renovation of floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, and screens from blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions.

Carpenter II:
Under general supervision, completes work orders by performing rough and finish carpentry projects and repairs to University buildings and contents. Provides mid to senior level knowledge and experience in the procedures and safety measures related to the work performed and the carpentry trade. Will coordinate work orders and ensure completion of all responsibilities in a timely manner. Ideal candidate should have extensive/progressive experience in the construction field including repair/installation of locks and related hardware, doors, windows, screens, plastic laminate, insulation, tile, carpet, stair treads, ceiling systems, caulking, trim, casework, and toilet partitions. Must be able to work from blueprints, sketches, and verbal instruction.

While performing the duties of either job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching and crawling all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

This position will work Monday to Friday; 7am-3:30pm. Note, this position may at times require evening, weekend, and holiday work as well as possible “on call rotations.”

Carpenter I Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree in related trade/field preferred;
0-2 year’s work-related years’ broad experience in carpentry to acquire knowledge of the methods and techniques of the trade;

Carpenter II Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree in related trade/field preferred;
3-5 year's work-related progressive level experience in carpentry to acquire the methods and techniques of the trade;
OR
AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE;

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities for level I and II:
Basic computer proficiency/skills;
Must have a current driver's license with a clean driving record for the last 3 years and no major violations within the last 5 years;
Knowledge of shop practices and skill in using shop tools and equipment;
Ability to read blueprints and translate into fabricated products;
Knowledge of the tools, equipment and materials common to the trade;
Knowledge of all applicable code standards and regulations;
Strong communication skills (i.e. verbal and written);
Ability to self-start, work independently and complete work orders in a timely manner;
Strong customer service focus;
Knowledge and familiarity of safety standards and regulations;
Ability to see details at close range;
Ability to lift, push, pull or carry objects;
Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs;
Ability to work at heights of 20 feet and above (REQUIRED);
Ability to work outside in various temperatures (summer/winter) for extended periods of time;
Ability to be “on-call” on a rotational schedule

Required Licenses/Certifications:

Must have a current and valid driver's license with a clean driving record for the last 3 years and no major violations within the last 5 years
