Reporting to the Dean of the School of Medicine the position will provide leadership, guidance and mentorship of research to faculty and staff, oversee internal and external collaborations in research, develop and expand major research programs, and monitor research and grant compliance. The position will also:

 

-Possess interpersonal skills that enable working across multiple disciplines that address priority issues and funding opportunities in the SOM research community.

-Assist the Dean in leading the planning and development of new research programs, strategic planning, budget and operations related to the SOM’s research activities.

-Promote visibility of the SOM and university research within local, regional, national and international organizations and communities.

-Serve as the SOM representative on university wide and community research committees and projects.

-Advise the Dean on national research trends and implications for the college.

-Identify and facilitate research collaborations among faculty within the SOM and other research units on campus, community partners, other universities and research institutions as well as state, regional and federal organizations.

-Participate in the recruitment of faculty.


Qualifications:

Earned terminal degree with tenure and a rank of associate professor or professor. Successful administrative experience at the university level, including the management of budgets, facilities, assessment, and strategic planning. Experience identifying research and creative activity funding opportunities and facilitating grant awards. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Successful experience in community engagement and outreach. A commitment to research, excellent leadership skills and a strong commitment to diversity and social justice. A demonstrated history of obtaining and sustaining external funding.  This position requires 0.2 FTE.

Ability to provide evidence of excellent university-level teaching and/or significant publications
