Reporting to the Dean of the School of Medicine and the University’s Vice Provost for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion; the Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion for the School of Medicine will be a key member of the Dean’s senior administrative team.  In addition, the position will also serve as Assistant Vice-Provost for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion and in that will be part of the Vice Provost- Institutional Diversity and Inclusion leadership team, which will include being part of advisory boards, committees, or councils.   This position is a .2 FTE. 


The following is a summary of the position and will include but not be limited to the following roles and activities.


Position Summary:
  • Provide oversight and coordination and/or organization for all diversity and inclusion activities which support medical students, residents, fellows, faculty, and staff members of the School of Medicine
  • Develop a strategic diversity plan for the School of Medicine that is consistent with the Creighton University’s strategic initiatives and diversity plan, in addition to work will be done together with the Vice Provost for D&I. This should include a set of goals for diversity and guidance on how the goals will be implemented. The work is continuous, and the goals continue to evolve as the SOM and the University grow and refine D&I efforts
  • Promote professional, academic, and social development regarding cultural competence through training such as “Everyday Bias"
  • Work collaboratively with other health science schools on diversity and inclusion efforts in the development of inter-professional pipeline programs and other activities. They will also provide guidance and oversight to the Assistant Dean for D & I in the CUSOM.
  • Coordinate efforts to open dialogues and develop communication patterns which foster new ways to discuss diversity and inclusion and create an atmosphere for open discussion on difficult conversations about race and gender
  • Provide leadership for the development of initiatives, policies, and procedures to recruit, retain, support and ensure the success of underrepresented student, faculty and staff populations
  • Work closely with Human Resources and search committees to facilitate the selection of a diverse pool of applicants. This will include developing new processes and procedures to better attract diverse applicants.
  • Collaboratively lead the advocating for and support of underrepresented students in the SOM in conjunction with new and existing efforts in SOM, the Health Sciences, and across the University for all populations in the School of Medicine, including members of racial/ethnic groups, LGBTQ members and women.
  • Collaborate with the School's clinical partners to fulfill the School's diversity goals, especially regarding clinical faculty not employed by Creighton University

Qualifications:

Education at the level of MD, PhD or comparable terminal degree
Eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor in the School of Medicine
Three (3) years experience working with diversity programs or equivalent combination of
education and experience.

Ability to foster student learning, development, and decision making in support of their goals, success, wellness, and needs;

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport quickly and effectively with a diversity of populations;

Empathy and compassion for the experiences of others;

Ability to provide evidence of excellent university-level teaching and/or significant publications
