SUMMARY:

The Department of Occupational Therapy Director of Academic Clinical Education is a full-time clinician education, non-tenure track faculty position who serves as the team lead for the Clinical Education Team. The director organizes, directs, and oversees the activities of the Clinical Education Team consisting of multiple Academic Clinical Education Coordinators (ACEC) and staff assistants. The Clinical Education Team is responsible for the development and maintenance of quality clinical education affiliation agreements and the management of student preparations and experiences for fieldwork and capstone experiences to meet Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE®) standards. Along with leadership of the team, the director also serves as an ACEC.

We are looking for an occupational therapist that can fulfill the following major duties and responsibilities. The candidate will maintain current knowledge of occupational therapy literature, reimbursement, and ACOTE® standards to oversee program adherence and integrity related to clinical education (Level I Fieldwork, Level II Fieldwork, and Capstone experiences). They will work directly with the Creighton University Department of Occupational Therapy Program Chair/Director. The candidate will represent the Department of Occupational Therapy as the Director of Academic Clinical Education at American Occupational Therapy Association meetings and for ACOTE® accreditation purposes.  

The position includes leading and managing the clinical education team of faculty and staff. Coordinating job tasks and training, managing budget, and completing performance reviews to support the Clinical Education Team. The candidate will communicate and report on the progress and outcomes of fieldwork students to the Department of Occupational Therapy in order to promote connections between the clinical education and didactic aspects of the OTD curriculum. They will develop and update clinical education related forms and processes to improve the quality and efficiency of the student clinical education experiences as well as collaborate with fieldwork coordinators, educators, and other key stakeholders to ensure clinical education experiences are congruent with program objectives. The candidate will develop, coordinate, and effectively communicate with clinical sites and provide professional leadership and support for fieldwork coordinators, educators, and other key stakeholders.

As an academic member, the candidate will manage clinical education courses and teach proficiently to provide excellent clinical education preparation in a face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid learning environments. Prepare, place, continually monitor, and assign final grade for occupational therapy students enrolled in Level I and Level II fieldwork, as well as in capstone experiences. Mediate conflicts, establish specific learning objectives, record attendance, and supervise clinical affiliations to ensure that the fieldwork and capstone experiences are adequate, and the student achieves a satisfactory level of performance. Ensure that fieldwork educators and site mentors are appropriate to supervise students depending on the level of clinical experience. Provide individualized student clinical plan of study advisement, academic advisement, and general student support.

The minimum qualifications for the position are as follows: terminal doctoral degree in occupational therapy, or related area of study; PhD, EdD, or OTD; occupational therapist with active Nebraska license or eligibility for Nebraska licensure; three years of experience as an occupational therapist; three years of experience in leadership, management, program development, fieldwork coordination, and/or student supervision; evidence of excellent communication with healthcare and community stakeholders; experience in teaching, service, and/or scholarship.
