The Assistant Director for the Office of Title IX and Civil Rights Compliance is responsible for investigating complaints under Creighton University’s Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy and Non-Discrimination Policy, including complaints under Title IX, Title VII, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

This individual will fulfill the University’s compliance obligations by conducting prompt, thorough, and equitable investigations, primarily for the Omaha campus, using a civil rights investigation model. The Assistant Director also assists with Title IX supportive measure implementation and accommodations specific to pregnant and parenting students and employees. The Assistant Director participates in providing presentations, trainings, education, awareness campaigns, and compliance initiatives specific to the Office of Title IX and Civil Rights Compliance. This position reports to the Executive Director for the Office of Title IX and Civil Rights Compliance.

  • Coordinate and execute prompt, thorough, and equitable investigations of complaints under the University’s Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy (2.1.35) and the Non-Discrimination Policy (2.1.25). This includes complaints pursuant to Title IX, specifically, sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking. Conduct interviews with parties, identify and gather evidence, and provide timely communication with all parties involved in an investigation. Review and analyze all evidence and statements and draft written investigative reports for review by the Title IX Hearing Board and/or the Executive Director for the Office of Title IX and Civil Rights Compliance and other administrators involved in the decision process.
  • Assist with informal resolution processes and work with other departments and administrative areas on referrals for resolution outside of the Office of Title IX and Civil Rights Compliance.
  • Partner with the Associate Director (Omaha campus), Associate Director (Phoenix campus), and other professionals who serve as trained, volunteer investigators.
  • Assist with training and education for faculty, staff, students. Present policy and compliance information through orientations, online training, and training by request. Serve on committees.
  • Retain records and work with the Executive Director for the Office of Title IX and Civil Rights Compliance in reporting statistics annually.
  • Coordinate supportive measures and implement Title IX accommodations including accommodations for pregnant and parenting students. Coordinate appropriate measures in partnership with campus offices, including Student Accessibility Services, Human Resources, Student Life, Public Safety, and other departments.
  • Other duties as assigned within the office.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or within a related field; Master’s or JD preferred.
  • 2-4 years of demonstrated success in the area of investigations, student conduct, violence prevention, human resources, or employee relations in an academic environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility with a broad range of constituents, including administrators, faculty, staff, students, families, law enforcement, and community members.
  • Ability to serve as a neutral, unbiased party in the investigation process.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion and sensitivity.
  • Familiarity with federal statutes related to higher education, specifically Campus SaVE, Clery Act, Title IX, FERPA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
  • Ability to take initiative and carry out detailed work under time constraints.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Effective organizational skills.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Requires Title IX Investigator Certification or ability and commitment to obtain certification within six months of hire.
